Welcome to WISEPOWER technology!

This app is a simulation of a new, revolutionary technology in vibrational energy harvesting developed by Wisepower srl, a spin-off company of the NiPS laboratory at the University of Perugia in Italy.

The simulation shows how much energy your iPhone could harvest from ambient enivronmental noise if a WISEPOWER vibration harvester were installed inside of it.

The app uses the acccelerometer in your iPhone to measure its ambient motion.

The plot in the upper part of the screen shows the instantaneous voltage or power that would be generated by an energy harvester as a function of time. The red curve shows the voltage that would be generated by a traditional energy harvester that uses a linear cantilever. The green curve shows the voltage generated by a WISEPOWER energy harvester that uses nonlinear oscillators.

Below the plot, you can see how much power is being generated and how much energy you have accumulated over time. You can then see how long you could power some common devices (e.g. a digital watch) by using this energy.

The sliding knob lets you specify the amount of nonlinearity you want to set for your harvester. When it is at the far left, the harvester works like a linear oscillator and the red and green tracks are equal. Sliding the knob to the right increases the degree of nonlinearity.

On the lower bar you have the following menu:

* About: Information about the application.

* Reset: Resets the amount of accumulated energy to zero.

* Tuning: The system performs an auto-tuning routine that determines the best nonlinear parameter for the current ambient conditions.

* Settings: This lets you choose among several common devices that could be powered in order to show how you could use the harvested energy. In this section you can also select which information display on the plot (i.e. voltage or power).
